Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is known to facilitate healing and we use PRP when determined appropriate. There are distinct differences between OCM and PRP. OCM uses a unique blend of amino acids, vitamins, and minerals in a natural, fibrous, and highly ozonated medium where the platelets are held in a cytokine rich clot matrix over an extended period to enhance cellular dedifferentiation. Viewed from the surface, the biggest differences between OCM and PRP are Time and the natural fibrin matrix structure that enables regenerative type repair and cell ingrowth.

The efficacy and concentration of certain growth factors in healing injuries with PRP are the theoretical basis for the use of PRP in tissue repair. In developing the OCM technology, Dr. Harper needed to ensure the presence of a high concentration of growth factors to stimulate the repair process. Clinical trials with whole blood clot matrix using the Hula Cup proved higher concentrations of growth factors than even Harvest PRP.

Having developed a superior repair cascade, sufficient repair resources needed to be provided and balanced. Using a particular amount of patented multi-nutritional products called Rheumexalyn and/or Regenyln, nutrition is supplied to the cells at the site and the concentration is precisely modulated to effectively combine with the clot without nullifying growth stimulation. Adding medical grade ozone to the matrix also stimulates the body’s natural healing process and provides pain relief, inflammation regulation, and antioxidant-like effects at the site of injection to rapidly rebuild damaged areas.

The advantage of using a clotting matrix over platelet-rich plasma is that there is no need for centrifugation, no need to add exogenous chemical activators (such as thrombin and calcium chloride), and no need for a carrier (such as an exogenous sponge) to insure that the growth stimulating liquid remains at the proposed site. The Ozonated Clot Matrix is self-contained, keeping the platelets at the site of injection and naturally providing a welcomed ‘space cushion’ especially in painful joints.

Dr. Harper has found that by taking whole blood, clotting the blood, and mixing it with ozone and a patented vitamin mixture, a fibrous matrix resembling a foam consistency is obtained. When injected in joints it essentially fills in the joint and is active for 14 days stimulating stem cells and regenerating cartilage. With most patients, three injections over three months have been very effective in reaching the desired goal of the treatment.
